Unit 1- What's Behind the door?
When I first heard our unit topic was called "What's behind the door?" the first thing I thought of was a chaotic creature that is up to mischief all the time and always wondering off being curious about a lot of things....
The original story that I came up with was that this creature grew up with normal animals for example horses, dogs, cats, chickens, sheep, rabbits etc...
This creature always felt a little different from the others and they didn't know where it came from, the plotline I got it from the ugly duckling story, the duckling never really fitted in with the rest of their siblings as it was "ugly" that's what I wanted my character to me like apart from I didn't want it to look ugly I just wanted it to b the odd one out and didn't really fit in with the others...
The way that it came "behind the door" was that a scientist took him or her to discover this unusual creature that doesn't belong with other normal animals, the scientist did a load of tests on this creature to find out where they came from it could have been from another planet or somewhere on earth that have other creatures like her or him around, the creature only communicates with it's mind so he or she will know what your thinking at all times it can get a bit overwhelming at times because he or she knows other peoples thoughts and feelings.

This mood board shows different shapes, expressions and personalities. Some of these designs is exactly what I pictured for my main character.
I chose images with a mix of cute, creepy and fuzzy creatures with simple detailed designs.
Reflective Blog
Design 1

I like this design because it either looks like a slug or from a character from the movie Monsters Inc...
I like the expression that I chose for this character design , it makes it look mysterious and wanting to wonder of and explore things when it shouldn't that's what I pictured my character to look like.
Design 2

When I originally designed this character I wanted it to look cute/ a little ugly, sort of like the ugly duckling plotline...

What I also liked about this design is that it kind of has a " stupid" look to it but it really isn't stupid it's actually really cleaver !
Design 3

This creature is very sneaky as it has loads of legs and the facial expression show that as well...

I also like how this character looks "old" by him looking really hairy under the chin it looks like he has a beard but he has a toddler like personality so he always looks curious all the time, that's what I want my final character to be like.
Design 4

With this creature design I really enjoyed drawing him because he looks really mysterious because it has a little grin on his face... I like that because I wanted a cheeky grin for my character maybe I might include this in my final design.
Design 5

I really like this design however I would have liked it if this creatures body was fluffy and fuzzy, it's a bit like marmite you either like it or hate it...
Next time I will draw a creature that is fluffy and fuzzy that has wings as well to see what it would look like, I also like the facial expression that I chose for this character I might use it for my final piece.
Design 6

With this drawing I originally wanted it to look like a cat but it also looks like a squirrel, I'm actually really glad that it turned out like that because I could potentially us this design in my final piece, it also looks mysterious as if its hunting for food or wondering off somewhere this s exactly what I wanted my character to be like.
Design 7

This drawing of this creature is one of my favourites but it went slightly wrong when I used coloured pen to see what it would look like coloured in...

I actually pictured my creature to look like this however I wanted it to be fluffy and fuzzy with wings and I would like to change the colours of this design, I think next time I will include these features if I do a character design in the future.
Design 8

I really like this character design I love the way that it turned out however I did want it to look fluffy and fuzzy I'll do that next time if I do character design in the future.
I like the facial expression that I chose for this design as it looks like its screaming or terrified its kind of chaotic that's what I wanted to see in my character design.
Character Emotions

Matt Damon practice sketch

When I was doing this sketch of Matt Damon I was really struggling sketching his nose, hair and ear.
I need more practice with those areas as I want to get better at it, I don't often draw people I mostly like to draw cartoon things it would be really helpful to get more practice in the future.
When I was sketching the hair I was struggling to get where the sense of direction the hair was going and I was also struggling with the shading of the hair and how realistic I should have made it. .

Noses are really hard to draw especially on paper, I draw digitally a lot and you can cheat sometimes when doing digital drawing but with on paper you can see where you have rubbed things out and see some of your mistakes...
I've always struggled drawing ears as ears have a funny shape to them with all the detail on the ears its hard to make it look realistic I do need to work on that as well.
Character Pose sketches

pose drawing 1
With this pose it was supposed to bee one hand down and one on the hip, I'm not sure if you can tell in the drawing but I wanted it to look a bit sassy...
pose drawing 2

I really like this pose that I chose for this character It's giving a "ta da" moment as if it finished a show... I had some trouble drawing out this pose so I had to take a picture of myself doing this pose so I could get an idea on how to draw it, this is what it looks like now

pose drawing 3
This pose is one of my favourites because it's the sort of pose that you would do with your friends is a photo booth on a day out...
I was having a little trouble drawing out this pose I wanted it to look a bit like this.

I really like this pose it's an angry pose it shows the emotion really well ! I also like how I drew this as its well detailed, it makes it look a bit sassy as if he or she takes no for an answer...

I really don't like this drawing but I'm glad I did it because I wanted to draw this pose, the main thing I was struggling with was where to draw the tail, head and body I wasn't sure how to draw it but I tried my best...

I need more practice drawing different poses I will do that in the future this, I'm not sure if you can tell in my original drawing but I wanted it to look a bit like this

This pose gives me a sassy look I really like this design, this is the sort of thing I was looking for when I was designing it I like the detail in this drawing I do need more practice doing more poses like this.
Character Research
I got some of my ideas from a lot places but I mostly got them from movies that I've watched and games that I've played but I kept my own ideas original and I tried not to copy from these movies and games.

The ideas that I got to create my character are mostly from the movie Despicable me, Monsters Inc and the game Hogwarts Legacy...

These ideas inspired me to create my own character, I think my character is a combination of all three inspirations in my research apart from the Despicable Me dog in the movie.. my character ended up looking like this...

Character Turn around

I did two turn around pieces the first one is what I imagined my final piece to look like I wanted it to look like a prison mugshot that why I drew my character holding the placard in it's hands, I also wanted the turn around to look funny I wanted each drawing to have a different emotion and pose to make it look funny.
I was really struggling with the three quarter drawing I didn't know how to draw the right angle for this piece, I need more practice drawing different angles as I struggle with that a lot.
I am really happy with the way this one turned out, its exactly how I pictured my character to be I wanted it to look mysterious as if it wonders off a the time and getting into trouble all the time.

I originally wanted my character to look like this I didn't chose this design as it was a complicated design to draw, it would have been difficult to draw different poses for this character as it only has legs no arms, it probably would have been doable but I didn't want to complicate myself when actually drawing my final piece so I kept it looking simple.

This is the final piece that I ended up choosing, I chose this piece because It was much more simpler than the first one, if I had to do this turn around again I would definitely do the mugshot scenario drawings of this character but do it properly.

I am really happy with the detail that I did for this piece its exactly what I pictured my character to look like, I think I do need a bit more practice drawing at different angles like I said earlier because with the three quarter drawing I really struggled with that the most, I just didn't know where to start with that drawing but I gave it a go in the end... but overall I'm really happy with the way it turned out, I would love to draw more characters like this as it was really fun to do, this final piece was a challenge but this challenge was worth doing in the end!
